One Cambridgeshire club doesn’t believe in making things easy for themselves in the 2023 British Clubs Mixed Championships.
Brampton Park GC reached the quarter finals of this year’s competition by edging Northamptonshire County GC 3-2 in a tense home fourth round tie.
Incredibly it was their fourth 3-2 victory of the tournament, following previous narrow wins over Girton GC, Barnham Broom GC and Abridge GC.
Next up is a south east regional final at home against Surrey’s Betchworth Park GC after they saw off Royal Eastbourne GC 3.5-1.5.
In the south west division, Hertfordshire’s Brickendon Grange GC enjoyed a narrow 3-2 away victory to end the hopes of Berkshire’s Royal Ascot GC.
They will now host Rowlands Castle GC in the regional final after the Hampshire side ended the hopes of Exeter GC 3.5-1.5.
Elsewhere in the Midlands, Lincolnshire’s Belton Park GC made home advantage count as they saw off Nottinghamshire’s Beeston Fields GC 4.5-0.5.
Their reward is a trip to Rhos-on-Sea GC after the Welsh side whitewashed Derbyshire’s Bakewell GC 5-0.
In the northern division, Yorkshire’s Wetherby GC edged a close encounter against Lancashire’s Westhoughton GC 3-2 with four of the five games going to the 18th hole.
In the end, and with teammates waiting anxiously on the balcony, the first couples returned from the second extra hole with Wetherby victorious by the narrowest of margins.
Next up is a northern regional final away against Scarborough South GC, who defeated City of Newcastle GC 4-1.
All four quarter finals need to be played by September 3 with the winners reaching this year’s finals at the Oxfordshire Golf & Country Club on September 28 and 29.
