Right royal entry in 2023

You don’t have to be royalty to enter the 2023 British Clubs Mixed Championships – but it helps.

Four teams with royal connections will be teeing it up in this year’s championships – with all of them hoping the second season of the competition will end in triumph.

And while Royal Eastbourne GC and Royal Mid Surrey GC will be returning to do battle in 2023, for Royal Winchester GC and Royal Ascot GC it will be their first time of trying.

Down in Sussex, Royal Eastbourne have been given a juicy home tie against newcomers Littlehampton while over in Hampshire Royal Winchester host reigning champions Stoneham GC.

Fellow debutants Royal Ascot take on Berkshire neighbours Mill Ride GC while Royal Mid Surrey’s two teams play Camberley Heath GC and Betchworth Park GC.

A fifth club Royal Montrose GC would have been returned too – but extensive renovation work at the historic course meant they weren’t able to compete this year.

Despite the dreadful weather to hit the country this week, the first games in this year’s competition are due to take place soon with debutants Airdrie GC hosting Glasgow’s Douglas Park GC and City of Newcastle B playing newcomers Alnmouth GC, both on Sunday.
