And they are off

The weather finally relented – and the first matches in the 2023 British Clubs Mixed Championships have been completed.

Most of the action took place in the northern region where newcomers Airdrie GC saw off fellow debutants Douglas Park GC 4-1, despite three of the five matches going to extra holes.

Alnmouth GC also made their debut a winning one, defeating City of Newcastle GC B 4-1 while Rochdale GC edged a close encounter against Accrington GC 3-2 – both of them precious away wins.

But City of Newcastle will have one side in the second round after their A team pipped Whitby GC 3-2.

In the Midlands, an all Leicestershire clash saw Glen Gorse A beat Beedles Lake 4-1 while Shrewsbury School edged Shropshire neighbours Lilleshall Hall GC 3-2.

And in the south west, Hampshire’s Rowlands Castle GC triumphed over Romsey GC 3.5-1.5 and Sunbury GC pipped Enfield GC 3-2.
