Hampshire champions march on

A Hampshire team has become the first side into the fourth round of the British Clubs Mixed Championships.

Debutants Rowlands Castle GC enjoyed a well-earned 3.5-1.5 victory over Barton-on-Sea GC – but didn’t have it all their own way.

Two of their winning matches went to the 19th hole, giving them an unbeatable 3-1 lead, which meant the last rubber, all square on the 18th, didn’t have to be completed.

Rowlands Castle emerged triumphant from a tough Hampshire group which saw them previously beat Romsey GC and Royal Winchester GC.

Now just two wins away from the grand finals at the Oxfordshire GC on September 28 and 29, they will now host the winners of Exeter GC and Lanhydrock GC in round four, hoping to emulate the achievement of last year’s winners Stoneham GC, also from Hampshire.
