Reigning champions Worlebury GC are on the march again in the 2025 British Clubs Mixed Championships.
The Somerset side are just one step away from the national finals after a superb fourth round away victory over Herefordshire GC.
And just like the previous round, Worleybury had to do it the hard way after coming from 2-0 before sealing a 3-2 win.
Chairman Graham Hewlett recalled: “It didn’t look like we were going to be able to play after a storm came through as we were all waiting to tee off flooding the greens.
“But eventually we managed to play, and the rest of the thunderstorms missed us, although we could hear thunder all around as we played. It was a great course and we were treated so well by Herefordshire’s club captain Don and his team.”
Next up for Worlebury in the south west regional final at South Winchester GC are Barton-on-Sea GC after the Hampshire side scraped past Southampton’s Boundary Lakes GC 3-2.
Further north, Scotland’s last remaining side are out after Downfield GC’s great run came to an end at the hands of Yorkshire’s Ryburn GC.
The Dundee side lost 5-0 as Ryburn progressed to the northern final at Catterick GC to play Chester’s Eaton GC, who defeated Haydock Park GC 4-1.
In the south east, Enfield GC reached the quarter finals with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Goodwood GC.
Facing them in the regional final at The Drift GC in Surrey will be Abridge GC after the Essex side overcame Windlesham GC in wet and windy conditions 3.5-1.5.
Finally in the Midlands, Cambridgeshire’s Brampton Park GC enjoyed a successful weekend away trip to Staffordshire where they edged a close game against Ingestre Park GC 3-2.
Captain Pam Lammiman enthused: “My lovely team managed to juggle dog-sitting duties, other golfing commitments and even the imminent arrival of a grandchild to be in Staffordshire for the match.
“Most of us were able to spend the weekend there, having a practice round and a lovely meal out in Stafford.
“Our middle pair, our previous team captain Greg and Anne, did the round trip on Sunday – so it was fitting that they did the final putt of the day, on the 18th green, to secure our win. It was a highly emotional event and Ingestre could not have been better hosts.”
Brampton Park, runners-up in 2023, now progress to the Midlands final at Leicester’s Glen Gorse to play Norfolk’s Barnham Broom GC, who pulled off a narrow 3-2 away win against Nottinghamshire’s Wollaton Park GC.
The four regional winners will qualify for this year’s national finals at Telford Golf Resort in Shropshire on September 25 and 26.
