For such a golf mad county, it may come as a surprise to many that mixed matches amongst clubs in Northumberland is not a high priority.
All that may be about change however as teams from England’s most north-easterly region embrace the 2023 British Clubs Mixed Championships.
Following on from the success of Stocksfield GC, a small but perfectly-formed club near Newcastle, who finished runners-up in the inaugural event last year, other Northumberland sides want a piece of the action.
And while Stocksfield will be entering two teams this year, they will be joined by debutants Almnouth GC, Bamburgh Castle GC and Hexham GC as well as two returning teams from the City of Newcastle GC.
It all adds up to a cracking contest in the north-east, as well as a call to arms to other sides all over the country – with less than two months to go before entries close and battle begins.
