Muthill Golf Club are flying the flag for Scotland as the 2024 British Clubs Mixed Championships reached the last 16 stage.
The Perthshire side, who reached the same stage in 2022, saw off East Lothian rivals Longniddry GC 4-1 in warm conditions and now face a cross-border trip if they wish to go further.
Standing in their way of a place in the last eight are 2022 finalists Stocksfield GC after the Northumberland team enjoyed a 4.5-0.5 win against Alnmouth GC.
Elsewhere in the north, 2023 finalists Scarborough South Cliff GC enjoyed a comfortable 5-0 win over Howley Hall GC and will now visit Lancashire’s Pleasington GC, who pipped Burnley GC 3-2.
In the Midlands division, Shropshire’s Lilleshall Hall didn’t drop a game in their 5-0 victory over Leicester’s Beedle’s Lake GC and will now host Cheshire’s Portal GC, who defeated county neighbours Eaton (Chester) GC 4-1.
Norfolk newcomers Heacham Manor GC continued their fine run with a 3.5-1.5 triumph over 2022 finalists Belton Woods GC.
They will now visit Leicestershire’s Kibworth GC, who just got the better of Nottinghamshire’s Norwood Park GC 3-2.
In the south west division, newcomers South Winchester GC edged past Ryde GC 3-2 to earn another home tie, this time against neighbours Romsey GC, who beat Leominster GC A.
It was the end of the road altogether for Leominster as their B succumbed narrowly 3-2 against Berkshire’s Mill Ride GC.
The reward for Mill Ride will be a trip to Somerset’s Worlebury GC, who ended the run of Cornwall’s Lanhydrock GC 3.5-1.5.
Meanwhile in the south east, Royal Mid Surrey GC ended the debut run of Goodwood GC, winning 4.5-0.5, despite four of the five games going to the 18th hole.
They will now be visiting Sunbury GC, who conquerered Clandon Regis GC 5-0.
Essex side Abridge GC continued their fine run by defeating Surrey’s Camberley Heath GC 4-1 to earn a home tie against 2022 finalists Bedfordshire GC, who defeated 2023 finalists Brampton Park GC 3.5-1.5.
This year’s four regional winners will qualify for the finals at the magnificent Celtic Manor Resort in south Wales on September 26 and 27.
