A Somerset side has become the first to reach the quarter finals of the 2024 British Clubs Mixed Championships.
Worlebury GC are just one step away from the national finals after seeing off Berkshire’s Mill Ride GC 4.5-0.5, although the game was closer than the score suggests.
Chairman Graham Hewlett said: “Mill Ride brought a very strong team and the overall result was in doubt for quite a while, but our pairs managed to prevail in the closing holes. Everyone had a great day and all rushed off to watch the football afterwards!”
Next up for Worlebury, who are playing in their third season of the competition, is a last eight tie against the winners of the all-Hampshire game between South Winchester GC and Romsey GC.
This year’s four regional winners will qualify for the finals at the magnificent Celtic Manor Resort in south Wales on September 26 and 27.
