Final places secured

Teams from Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire will contest the final of the 2023 British Clubs Mixed Championships after winning their semi-finals today.

Brampton Park defeated Scarborough South Cliff GC 4-1 and Brickendon Grange GC edged Rhos-on-Sea GC 3-2 in cool, blustery conditions at the Oxfordshire Golf Club.

Club manager Shaun Smith and his wife Ruth got Scarborough off to a terrific start, winning the last two holes to claim victory over Greg and Anne Wills 2up.

But south east regional winners Brampton Park fought back well to claim the other four matches.

Neil and Claire Hewson beat Gary Dixon and Kate Owen 1up, Graham and Cath Emery defeated Alison Lockwood and Ian Bland 3&1, Alan Phillips and Di Aloia overcame Neil Bruce and Anita Arnold Forster 3&2 and Vin and Pam Lammiman triumphed 3&2 over Rob Hobson and Judy Locking.

In the other tie, Brickendon’s Steve Dawson and Val Morrison beat Dawn Jones and Stuart McKellar 3&1 in the first pair before Jenny Stewart and Greg Hardwick levelled matters against Bob Van Hamme and Sue Borella 4&3.

Brickendon Grange sealed victory with wins from Anuj Patel and Alison Wood 5&3 over Pat Ellis and David Roberts and Rob & Alison Ellis 2&1 over Carrie Parisella and Tracey Williams.

Rhos-on-Sea enjoyed a consolation win in the last rubber when Sue Ashley and John Dickson triumphed 2&1 over Graham and Gill Lamb.

Tomorrow’s final and third-place play-off begins at 9.20am.
