A Leicestershire side has become the third team to reach the finals of the 2024 British Clubs Mixed Championships – after entering for the first time this year.
Debutants Kibworth GC defeated Shropshire’s Lilleshall Hall GC 3-2 in the quarter finals at Glen Gorse GC to earn their place at the magnificent Celtic Manor Resort in south Wales on September 26 and 27.
Kibworth captain Paul Jelly said: “It was a very close game. Two matches went down the 19th but luckily we only needed one win by then for an overall victory.
“It came thanks to Mike and Julia Holley who won following an incredible fight back. It was a great effort not only by this pair but all the Kibworth team who gave shots in all matches. Now for the finals.”
Kibworth have enjoyed smooth progress in this year’s competition, beating Leicestershire’s Willesley Park GC in round one, Glen Gorse GC in round two, Nottinghamshire’s Norwood Park GC in round three and Norfolk’s Heacham Manor GC in round four.
They will now join south west champions Somerset’s Worlebury GC, northern winners Muthill GC, from Perthshire, and the south east regional winners in the finals at the end of September.
