Overstone Park GC needed a captain’s performance to secure victory in the first round of the inaugural 2022 National Inter-Clubs Mixed Team Championships.
Andrew and Roz Macdonald won their match on the 21st hole in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Northamptonshire County GC B.
It was one of two games that went beyond 18 holes as the county rivals enjoyed a friendly but competitive encounter.
Three-two proved a popular scoreline all over the country as a terrific contest in north Wales saw Mold GC edge Rhos on Sea GC, Ingestre Park GC pipped South Staffordshire GC in the Midlands and Cornwall’s Lanhydrock GC pipped their county neighbours Chine Fleet GC.
Up in Scotland, Muthill GC progressed smoothly into round two with a 4-1 victory over their Perthshire neighbours Strathmore GC while, in Derbyshire, Erewash Valley GC enjoyed a 4-1 win over Bakewell GC.
