A Cambridgeshire side has become the third side into the finals of the 2023 British Clubs Mixed Championships – but only by the skin of their teeth.
Brampton Park GC, who specialise in close call victories, enjoyed another nailbiting game in the quarter finals against Surrey’s Betchworth Park GC.
Level at 2-2 after the first four couples had finished their matches, it was all down to the last pairs, who found themselves all-square after 18 holes.
Heading into extra holes, Brampton Park held their nerve to claim victory on the 20th hole to secure their place in the finals at the Oxfordshire on September 28 and 29.
Incredibly it was the fifth match in a row that the Cambridgeshire side had edged their match 3-2 following victories against Northamptonshire County GC, Abridge GC, Barnham Broom GC and Girton GC.
Vice captain Greg Willis said: “It was way too close for comfort but a fitting way to end a fabulous match.”
South east regional winners Brampton Park join northern champions Scarborough South GC and Midland winners Rhos-on-Sea GC at the finals.
Completing the line-up will be the winners of the south west regional final between Hertfordshire’ s Brickendon Grange GC and Hampshire Rowlands Castle GC.
