Debutants dreaming of national success

A series of new sides will be joining a host of returning ones for this year’s 2025 British Clubs Mixed Championships.

With thoughts turning to warmer and dryer days ahead, teams from all over the country have decided to join the country’s only national competition for mixed sides.

Debutants this season will include four clubs from Sussex – Worthing GC, Selsey GC, Cooden Beach GC and Horam Park GC and two from Essex – Langdon Hill GC and Essex Golf & Country Club.

They will be joined by Hampshire newcomers Hockley GC, Middlesex’s Northwood GC, Surrey’s Sunningdale Heath GC, Suffolk’s Stowmarket GC, Pembrokeshire’s Tenby GC, Yorkshire’s Tadcaster GC and Hertfordshire’s West Herts GC.

Reigning champions Worlebury GC, from Somerset, will be back for another campaign alongwith our inaugural 2022 winners Stoneham GC, from Hampshire and 2023 winners Brickendon Grange GC, from Hertfordshire.

They will join dozens of returning teams  who have all signed up to enjoy some fun, competitive mixed golf and for the chance to be crowned the best mixed team in the country.

Once again, the competition is open to all clubs in England, Scotland and Wales and will be again played on a knockout basis between April and September 2025 with the four regional winners qualifying for the finals.

Teams will consist of five mixed pairs each with a maximum handicap of 24 for men and 36 for women (based on the course handicap for each player, using their handicap index and the slope rating for their gender and the tees they are using on the day).

Each of the five mixed matches will be played in a greensomes 18-hole format with each match played to a finish with extra holes if necessary. In response to demand, the minimum six drives each rule will remain.

Teams will be split into four regions with clubs drawn against each other on a county and regional basis in the early rounds to avoid excess travel where possible.

In entering the competition, all clubs must agree to extend courtesy of the course to their opponents for competitive rounds. Home clubs are encouraged to offer practice rounds at agreeable rates if asked.

Entry fees have been capped at this year’s rate of £100 per team (£180 for two teams). Each club may enter one or two teams per year. Players may only represent one team and one club per year.
